The company COMET SYSTEM awarded the trademark "Tested in Antarctica"

More than a year ago, the polar researchers took over COMET SYSTEM's equipment for testing. The company's CEO David Beránek then said that their motivation to test was not only their enthusiasm for Antarctica, but mainly the desire to see what their product can withstand. After two years of testing, on Wednesday 12 June 2024, David Beránek received a certificate from Jana Daňková, Business Development Manager of the MU Technology Transfer Office, which grants the COMETEO's product – Professional Thermometer Screen for Weather Station Sensor – the right to use the trademark "Tested in Antarctica".

Members of the Masaryk University Science Expedition received the equipment from representatives of COMET SYSTEM in January 2023. It was tested in Antarctica throughout 2023 until the return of the next expedition in March 2024. The goal was not only to receive the trademark “Tested in Antarctica”, but also to obtain product feedback.

How do you feel about the test result? How was the testing in Antarctica beneficial for you?
First of all, thank you for the opportunity to be part of such an interesting project organized by Masaryk University. We have received the trademark “Tested in Antarctica”, so we are more than satisfied with the result. But we have to approach the result with humility, there is always room for improvement and product innovation. First and foremost, we shall evaluate the information received from the scientists who were in charge of the testing.

How do you plan to use the acquired trademark license “Tested in Antarctica”?
For us this means two things. First, it is an acknowledgment of efforts of COMET colleagues who contributed to the product. Second, it is the marketing and promotion of the product, website or e-sales, where the trademark Tested in Antarctica is a significant added value and a certain guarantee of quality.

Are you planning further product testing or cooperation with Masaryk University in the future?
Absolutely YES. Personally, I would not associate future cooperation only with testing, but I would like to go more in depth. COMET SYSTEM s.r.o. is a company from Rožnov pod Radhoštěm and as such we try to use local, Rožnov companies as much as possible, either as our suppliers or as collaborators. We can think of it as a closely cooperating community of smaller companies that can, for example, exhibit together at international exhibitions, share sales ideas, help each other with marketing, etc. And this gets to the heart of the matter, where such collaboration, can also be connected to the university, during the development or the possibility of testing products and ideas of students in daily real-world practice. More closely collaborating companies thus means more chances for a student to find a field of interest and vice versa. Mostly it would be a bureaucratic relief for both parties, speeding up the whole process.

Are you tempted to visit Antarctica?
As a big fan of Antarctica, travelling and hiking, I would love to take part in one of the expeditions to the Nelson Island station in the future. So, let's see how I can make this dream come true.

Thanks to Masaryk University, companies have a unique opportunity to get feedback on their products and expose them to extreme conditions that they would not face during normal testing. This can also give them a competitive advantage by obtaining a trademark and proper marketing communication they can better present the quality of the product to customers. "We publish the results of all consumer tests on our website www.tested-in-antarctica.com. There you can find information about how the product stood out, why it deserved the trademark or what its weaknesses are," explains Jana Daňková, Business Development Manager of the MU Technology Transfer Office, which is responsible for the Tested in Antarctica project.
